Back in the 3rd week of September (the 21st to be exact), poor Ryan had to endure his first set of stitches. I was bathing him, Megan, and Morgan at the same time in the kids bathroom and left them so I could check on Tyler in our bathroom taking a shower. No sooner had I made it to our bathroom, I heard Ryan crying and Megan screaming for me. Poor little guy stood up and fell into the faucet.
I knew right away that he needed stitches and so after getting everyone dressed for bed and to Jay and Nancy's house, we were off to the hospital.
After the year we have had, with literally 3 ER visits with 3 different kids over the course of 4 months, I have to say that I am so, so, sooooo thankful for my position in the ER at Children's. It is SOOO relieving knowing who is laying hands on your child and knowing exactly what to expect upon walking through the doors. It prepared me (as good as possible) for this.
NOT fun seeing your baby papoosed! So thankful for quick hands on the PA and for it literally taking just a few minutes.
6 stitches later and I had a tired but fixed up little boy.
Looking back, some might have argued that it didn't really need stitches. I will admit, I considered trying to butterfly it and just call it good. But even during the time it took us to get to the hospital, Ryan ripped off at least 2 bandages and I knew there was no way I was going to be able to keep it closed. Plus, its my baby's face!! I know he will likely have scars and battle wounds due to the very fact that he is a boy but I couldn't let that happen on my watch!
It is amazing how God uses so many things in life to work together to bring you to certain points...vague statement, I know. But He used this stitches adventure to kind of open my eyes a little to how some of Ryan's issues, even the little things like the rash he developed on day 2 of life, might all be related. When we took the stitches out, his scar looked great. It was small and really hardly noticeable. Then, after a few days, it started to widen. It wasn't like it was opening back up, the scar itself was just widening. I could go into more detail with this, but basically, we are now looking into some genetic issues with Ryan. Nothing life threatening or really even life altering, but it does affect possible events in the future and so we covet your prayers as we go through doctor appointments and testing for that.
Up next, another zoo adventure! This time with Grandpa Jack and Grandma Sherry when they came to visit!
