The day after Thanksgiving definitely didn't hold any shopping for us! Though, I think that might have been less stressful and chaotic! Instead, we spent part of the day with my family and the afternoon and evening traveling to California for a mini reunion with Tim's side of the family and the annual deep pit barbecue.
I had figured that traveling with 2 small children all the way across the country was going to be difficult but I never guessed it would have been quite as hard as it actually was. The first 30 minutes was priceless...the kids were both fascinated by the big planes and the activity going on outside. I'm pretty sure Tyler's face stayed glued to the window until we at least got to cruising altitude. :) It was kind of funny, on the first flight, after we got in the air, Megan looked out the window, saw how high we were and then didn't want to have her feet on the floor. Its like she thought what she saw out the window was right under our feet! Little girl has a fear of heights already! Although, that doesn't show when she climbs onto things at home...Anyway, from trying to feed them dinner (make shift sandwiches and lunchable type items), reading books, playing with small toys, trying to get Megan to sleep, and then finally resorting to the DVD player, we quickly ran out of options and the almost 4 hour flight felt like an ETERNITY! I'm sure those around us felt about the same. The worst part about it was that we had another hour and a half flight after we made it on the first one (plus an hour and a half drive, getting us in at 0300 Eastern Time) and then 2 more flights home in just a few days. Sigh. But really, in reality, the little we had to suffer to be able to enjoy some truly priceless times with family was very worth it. Because of a VERY exciting event that happened the day we arrived home, we will be making a trip back to California sometime this summer...with THREE kids. Ugh. At least I have a few months to prepare... :)
Pictures of our time in California (I took over 200...) to come!
